July past, Microsoft attended HostingCon 2007 to talk about their new addition to the Windows Product line – Server Edition 2008. This boasts new IIS7.0 with its out-of-the-box PHP support, enhanced Management Console and further debugging / error handling improvements; DotNetPanel – A New Web Control Panel from a new partnership with Microsoft and DotNetPanel Software Company; and built-in Virtualization support.
They also announced – wait for it – cPanel Web Control Panel for Windows Server 2008! That’s right, you heard me, cPanel for Server 2008. Woah, at last cPInc =)
With 111 days from date to launch of this new Server OS however, we may as well forget about it for a good couple of months, and with limitless price possibilities for Microsoft, for some of us, forever.

I’ve used cpanel for years on the Linux platform. It’s great and allows most people without linux knowledge to maintain their linux sites. I’m not sure how helpful this will be on a windows platform, since it doesn’t seem like it would be needed as much. However, if the windows cpanel server could integrate with the linux cpanel, for items such as backups and site transfers, that would be really handy for webhosting providers.
I dont think cpanel works good with Windows infact Plesk is more reliable with Windows.
Cpanel is ok for Linux. We have a windows server hosted with Server Intellect that use Helm 3 which is soild CP for windows. Allows you to change your ASP versions through the cp which is quite nice.
Users having experience with cpanel will definately go with Linux platform, As far as windows is concerned i am not sure how good cpanel will be but so far plesk is the best compatible software on windows platform. Will be interesting to test cpanel on windows.
