Web 3.0 – The End of Google?

What makes Google genius in my opinion isn’t its always changing algorithm and concept of e.g. ranking sites according to number of backlinks, but rather their insight in how people use the internet. They search, they’ve always search and the question remains, will they always search? My instict tells me that yes they, or we, will always primirily search to find websites and navigate through the web. Internet is and always will be  too big for anything else.  But perhaps  social bookmarking will accelarate and gain greater part of people user-patterns in the future? Or will we simply go directly to wikipedia when we want to know something?

Has Google reached its peak or will it remain untouchable for yet another decenium? What is your thoughts?

  1. Hi,
in my opinion social networks will gain greater part of people user-pattern in a future (not so far).
Folksonomy is a great manner to share and discover knowledge, and Wikipedia is an immense and wondeful repository.
Today, people, perform many researches directly in their communities asking their friends, diving in forums or browsing shared bookmarks in del.icio.us. This is Web 2.0: connected people.
“Search Engines” know it very well.
Web 3.0, the semantic web, will donate a “brain” to both Web 2.0 and search engines.
So, soon the question will be: Push or Pull answers to users?
A social network that “understand” what people do in it, will be able to prevent its users questions?

I completely agree but this scenario with www domination by bookmarking sites is in my opinion far in the future. internet-users of today, and tomorrow, are far from finished with their fascination and worship of search engines!

technology sure is evolving fast and your line about “Web 20.0:connected people” brings my thoughts to Nokia’s slogan; Connecting people. Just some years ago cellphones was the communication altering technology. Now cellphones there is nothing new with telecommunication.

Or maybe I’m just getting old :-) / Thanks for reaching out Angelo!
