Odus Wittenburg, the VC of enterprise solutions at Rackspace said: “We’re tapping our vast community of partners and their networks to provide customers with a hosted virtual desktop platform that offers them choices. By working with partners like Citrix and their network of nearly 9,000 partners, we can utilize their exceptional software and application solutions, which is what they do best”.
According to Gartner, the expected number of virtual desktop users is 70 million by the end of year 2014. Rackspace, already leading hosting and cloud technologies, has rightly analyzed the need for a good virtual desktop solution in the market. In the news release, Rackspace explicitly mentioned the XenDestop and XenApp solutions by Citrix which deliver virtual desktops technologies and applications to be the high candidates for this service. Rackspace claimed that by hosting virtual desktops with Rackspace, companies can cut down their IT infrastructure and management cost and focus more on business operations.
Rackspace and Citrix have launched a 30 day trail Virtual Desktop Environment. The environment is hosted at Rackspace and uses Citrix software allowing users to experience desktop virtualization from any device (PC, Tablets, Smartphones) they have. The trail comes pre-loaded with common productivity applications for users to test how virtualized desktops perform in a “real-world” office environment. Demo Page
