The website by the name of IE6countdown.com lists the current percentage of the active users of Internet Explorer 6 that stands at an alarming 12%. The website's preamble reads, "10 years ago a browser was born. Its name was Internet Explorer 6. Now that we're in 2011, in an era of modern web standards, it's time to say goodbye".
The displayed chart shows that most users of IE6 are in Asia followed by Middle East while Europe and USA has the least count. This effort will try to bring the current active users of IE6 down to 1% worldwide. The website also provides countdown banners for developers to display on their sites to warn visiting users against IE6, documentation to educate yourself and others regarding the threats of using the older browser and an option to tweet the warning message to your followers.
Since most users of IE6 are from China (34.5%) followed by S. Korea (24.85%) and India (12.3%), similar pages supporting the languages of these areas will help spread the word quicker. The active campaign by Microsoft itself was long needed and further intensifies the need to upgrade to newer browsers in order to make web safer for all while enabling users to discover new web features.
