Uploading Files Using FTP
Published: Jul 29, 2009
You are now only minutes away from seeing real results (that is if you have done all of the other important steps for setting up a website of course) on your website. The only thing that is left to do is uploading your files via a file transfer protocol. FTP is an Internet protocol with which you can upload anything from music files to images or any other type of digital information. Follow our seven steps and watch your website come alive.

- Begin with opening the FTP program. Next you will have to type in the address in the space provided.
- Type in your ID and Password. Some remote computers are configured to allow Anonymous FTP. If this is the case you are able to login as a guest, skipping the password.
- Click the “Connect” button.
- When the connection is established you will see two windows with files and folders in your browser. The window to the left contains the folders on your hard disk and the window to the right represents the folders on your remote computer.
- Use the left hand window to locate the files that are to be uploaded on the remote computer.
- Once you have located the files, drag them to the window on the right. If your FTP program does not allow “drag and drop” you will usually be able to mark the files and then click an arrow pointing to the right. There will also be a help file that you can consult if you need further instructions.
- Make sure that the file is listed in the right hand window. That is it; you are now able to publish these files on your site. Simply link to the URL that you are given in your HTML document
