One of MySQL's strongest advantages is that the database management system is based on open source programming. This does not mean however that it should be considered freeware. No, there are still a number of patented functions to this system and it costs money to use. But by building it as an open source software MySQL allows its users a certainty of freedom to modify the DBMS as they see fit. Licensed under the General public License MySQL has an open source code and as the software is distributed to users the license give them the right to view, alter and improve the source code, thus the software. This is one of the reasons why MySQL has become so vastly popular.
Fast Updates and User Friendly
When other database management systems like Oracle are slow on updates MySQL seldom let's their users wait. With new and upgraded version coming out more than often and the first position as primary server database it looks like MySQL has found its place. Known and used mostly with the Linux operative system, that just happens to be a popular operative system for web servers, MySQL is also fast and reliable.
cPanel, phpMyAdmin and MySQL
A good example of a beginner's platform of using databases is the control panel many web hosts are using, cPanel. Not only will the user have access to video tutorials in order create databases but the phpMyAdmin function offers the user visual aid in managing many MySQL tasks.
